The Department of Science and Technology (DOST), in partnership with the eSports World Federation (ESWF), will officially tie its partnership through a Ceremonial Memorandum of Understanding Signing to support the growth and development of the gaming industry and digital sports in the country on February 19, 2024.

The partnership commits to collaborative programs, projects, and activities that support the gaming industry by tapping local talents in the creation and development of digital games and digital sports that support educational, cultural, and S&T-based digital games and digital sports in its sixteen (16) DOST regions and partner LGUs and SUCs, and towards the promotion of the same by jointly organizing events, conferences, seminars, and training programs, and the conduct of yearly regional and national exhibits and competitions.

Moreover, the alliance will implement training programs, workshops, and seminars to equip and nurture aspiring inventors with the necessary skills and knowledge to promote and market Filipino-developed digital games. This is also one of the initiatives of the government to attract foreign investments and foster a vibrant innovation ecosystem within the Philippine gaming sector.

Before qualifying for the 2024 eSports World Cup in China, Africa will compete in three stages. Mr. Agbor Clinton Ayuk, president of the Nigerian eSports Federation and vice president of Africa of the eSports World Federation, stated this at a briefing at the venue of the Thanksgiving ceremony to be attended by Nigeriaโ€™s sports minister, Senator John Enow. Each country is expected to motivate at least 500 people per title to contribute to the success of the inaugural African Esports Cup, according to the Nigerian eSports leader
During the first phase, all participants within a country will compete online against each other. The winners of each title will proceed to the tournamentโ€™s second phase.

The African eSports host president explains further that the Grand Final of the African Esports Cup will take place in Abuja, Nigeria. All the winners from the different regions will compete in a LAN event in Abuja, Nigeria, to determine the African Esports Cup winners and the overall champion leading Africa to the World Cup in China. There is much talk about the grand final from March 15 to 29, 2024.

Africaโ€™s best esports players from all over the world will have the opportunity to gather in Africa for the best esports competition in March. The African eSports Cup in the Nigerian capital will also serve as the qualifiers for the eSports World Cup in China much later in the year.

The host president and the president of the Nigerian eSports Federation, Agbor Clinton, says arrangements have reached the advanced stage of hosting Africa in Abuja for over a week.

The president of the Nigerian eSports Federation, Mr. Agbor Clinton, is delighted to announce that Abuja, Nigeria, has a five-year hosting right.

Mr. Agbor said about fourteen games will be played in three categories for the World Cup qualifiers.

MOA signing Philippine Dispute Resolution Center and Esports World Federation

PDRCI and Esports World Federation (ESWF), the umbrella organization of international organizations in electronic and digital sports and other game genres across the world, entered into a partnership to adopt and implement an alternative dispute resolution (ADR) policy to ensure speedy and cost-effective settlement of MetaSports-related disputes.

PDRCI President Atty. Roberto N. Dio and ESWF Founder and President Mr. Arniel Gutierrez signed the agreement which was witnessed by ESWF Trustee and Vice Chair of the Game Development Commission Mr. Ranulf Goss, PDRCI Vice Chair Atty. The Esports World Federation (ESWF), the pioneering internationally-oriented esports
federation in the Philippines, recently paid a courtesy visit to GAB Chairman Atty. Richard S.
Clarin, marking the beginning of a strategic partnership between the two organizations.
As the governing body for all MetaSports in the MetaGames, the ESWF holds a significant
position in the global esports landscape. Recognizing the immense potential and growing
prominence of esports, the ESWF aims to forge a close alliance with GAB to position the
Philippines as a leading hub for esports and elevate its status on the international stage.
During the visit, fruitful discussions were held between the ESWF delegation and GAB
Chairman Atty. Richard S. Clarin, highlighting the shared commitment to advancing the
esports industry in the Philippines. Both parties expressed their enthusiasm for
collaborative initiatives that will propel the country’s esports ecosystem to new heights.
